Anyone have a recommendation on a new washing machine?

Sorry. This is totally not design related...

So our washing machine was having some problems and when the guy came out yesterday to look at it, he basically said that it would cost over $400 to fix it so we should probably just buy a new one. Yikes! I am usually one to research something forever before I buy it, but this is something we need to get soon. So...do any of you have a washer that you love and would recommend?

  1. Anything by Maytag! I have wanted a frontloading washer but I can't get my 30 year old Maytag to die! I have had NO repairs, 2 boys--college age now, live on a lake with tons of company so it never stops running.

  2. We got a GE front loader last year when our washer died. We went to a scratch and dent shop. It was a new machine, never used, but had a ding on the side (that I cannot see due to it being in a closet), which brought the price down quite a bit. Our city also gave us a $100 rebate because they use less water/energy. We've had absolutely no problems. After the previous commentor's glowing recommendation though...a Maytag might be the way to go! LOL

Good luck getting one. I feel your pain! We had to go to the laundromat a few times, which was fun for the girls, but not so much for me. LOL

  3. When we moved across the country we decided it would be more economical to donate our old in CA and buy new when we got to WV. We got the Maytag Neptune front loading washer and dryer and purchased the drawer pedestal to put under them. I LOVE it! And we got 3 years of FREE Tide coupons too! Because the spin cycle can be jet speed, we sometimes had balance issues. But my husband has since bolted it to the floor and now it is smooth and quiet! :o)

  4. I have to say that I love my Whirlpool. I literally do at least 2 loads (big loads with my 3 kids and husband) every single day, and we've had it for 6 years. So that's a lot of washing! It is the super capacity washer, and it was something we could afford. I couldn't be happier with it! And it's been moved twice!

  5. Boy I hope this is not going around but my washer is on its last leg and we are looking too. Sorry to say now my oven is out also. I would love to have a front loader but its not in our price area. Good luck in finding one. We are going to Lowe's.

  6. Get an LG Tromm!! I wish I'd had one when my children were small. It take more laundry, uses less water, lessens drying time, and seems to get the clothes cleaner. Also, has a steam fresh cycle for "professional" clothes!
